Serving up tradition for over 37 years
We have been in business for the past 37 years. Welcoming travelers, locals, and groups to partake in a long history of a well valued meal, service with a smile, and a sense of history with an understanding of the significance of the location of The Spanish Bakery.
Gene & Julie are now walking the road Dewey & Marge walked, keeping tradition alive and well.
The Spanish Bakery is tucked away in an out of the way garden in the middle of St. Augustine Downtown Historic district right off St. George St. It wont be hard to find if you follow the sweet smell of freshly baked bread coming out of the stone hearth oven every half hour or so, not to mention the empanadas, or the spicy sausage wrapped in a flaky golden crust. That’s not all you’ll find, we have all sorts of delicious food for lunch and healthy snacks.
Gene Adelsperger whose parents (Dewey and Marge) started the business about 25 years ago is the certified chef who lights up the ovens every day around 3 o’clock AM. Getting what is known in this community as, the best baked food in town ready for the many friends who’ll stop buy for lunch or just to buy a couple of loafs of bread to take home.
Serving up the same traditional Spanish food that people have loved for years. So stop in and have a empanada or a bowl of Picadillo with a freshly baked roll, and if you see Marge ask her about the history of the Oldest City in the US, she’s a golden source for the history and traditions of St. Augustine.
